Es fängt mit einem leisen Summen an, kaum hörbar, eher ein Gefühl als ein Geräusch, irgendwo zwischen Werkstatt und Nachtbar, und ehrlich gesagt denke ich jedes Mal zuerst an diese eine Straße in der Stadt, wo alles in Neon getaucht ist und man nicht weiß, ob es Kunst ist oder einfach nur Licht, das nicht schlafen will. Mal unter uns, wer schon mal vor einer wirklich guten Neonarbeit stand, weiß, dass sie mehr macht, als nur zu leuchten. Sie zieht dich rein. Wie ein Slot, der sich dreht, langsam, fast hypnotisch. In unserem Studio, zwischen Glasröhren und Skizzen mit Kaffeeflecken, reden wir oft über Zufall und Kontrolle, über Linien, die absichtlich schief sind, über Farben, die man nicht planen kann. Und dann rutscht das Gespräch ab. Zu Kartenspielen. Zu alten Geschichten aus Online-Casinos, zu Partnerschaften, die auf den ersten Blick schräg wirken, aber irgendwie Sinn ergeben, etwa wenn jemand beiläufig erwähnt, dass ein Projekt durch eine Kooperation mit einem Casino mit hohen Gewinnchancen möglich wurde, nicht als Werbung, eher als Randnotiz, wie ein Neonblitz im Augenwinkel.
Neonkunst und Glücksspiel, das klingt nach Las Vegas, klar, aber es ist mehr Alltag, als man denkt. Jemand schraubt an einer Halterung, ein anderer erzählt von Sportwetten, die er nie abgeschlossen hat, weil das WLAN weg war, jemand lacht, jemand flucht, und draußen geht die Stadt weiter. Unsere Bilder hängen später in Bars, in Lounges, manchmal sogar dort, wo Online Slots auf Bildschirmen laufen und Menschen auf Auszahlungen warten, nervös, mit diesem speziellen Blick. Ich beobachte das gern. Nicht wertend. Eher neugierig. Neon ist wie ein guter Abend im Casino: zu hell, ein bisschen zu laut, voller Versprechen, die nicht immer gehalten werden. Aber genau das macht es lebendig. Wer schon mal gesehen hat, wie ein Neonbild zum ersten Mal eingeschaltet wird, dieses kurze Innehalten, dieses „Ah“, der versteht auch, warum wir uns für diese Partnerschaften öffnen.
